Learn Candlewicking Embroidery

~*~ Decorating our homes and clothes can be done easily with unique finds from vintage to modern. All dependent on the owner. How about adding the art of candlewick embroidery?

All right, maybe embroidery isn’t for everyone but what about your sister, aunt, mother or even your daughter? It is a skill requiring patience but once started will build pride and produce quite a beautiful and decorative piece that can be done for home decorating or clothes. Also be a skill she has for the rest of her life and provide her the ability to provide a source of supplemental income.

The art of candlewick embroidery was quite popular in the 1800-1900's. Traditional candlewick embroidery is done white on white. This means that white thread such as white Perle cotton or white crochet threads is applied on a white linen or muslim background. Colored fabrics and threads have also been used.

A wide variety and assortment of designs is available and can be done with this skill producing beautiful pieces. Tools of the trade will include :

Fabric, 100% white muslim, cotton or other fabric

Wicking yarn, Perle cotton thread, crochet thread or embroidery floss, White

Hoop, optional

Needles, large eye, size 20 Chenille or size 2 Embroidery or finer needle for embroidery floss

Transfer/Marking Pen, make sure it’s washable and easy to remove with cold water

Design, designs of your choice

Embroidery book, provide stitch instructions

A prior knowledge of embroidery stitches is recommended but I included the book for that just in case. As you can observe the list of items needed, is quite simple to gather. If you wrap this up in a gift bag or in a box it can prove to be quite a interesting gift.

The skill of embroidery has been around in every culture around the world and not limited to clothing but can be done to produce elegant place mats, infant christening gowns, table cloths, curtains, pillows, bedding and wall hangings and producing beautiful and elegant visual effects.

Soft music in the background while embroidering can pass time and prove to be very therapeutic for the soul. All products on this page can be found at Amazon for purchasing.
