Cheers! my HubPages Anniversary
64Dame Scribe on HubPages
Welcome to the world of HubPages! My first year here and a milestone for me since I have learned so much over the year as of this month. Shall I share my year?
First, I am an avid reader in topics of a variety of subjects. So much information to learn and always on the lookout for something new and interesting. I got into this downloading ebooks phase of which I am still a fan and had to clean out my computer. One ebook was discussing about blogging and I was,’ yeah, ok, tell me all about it,’ and skimmed over a list of sites that invited people to write and yes, there was HubPages. Please do not ask me which ebook since I have way too many saved. As I said, I love reading to learn.
I like invitations. They are similar to the act of a complete male stranger, smiling and opening the door and allowing me to pass by. Well, how can I miss this? Let’s go see what this is all about since this ebook and author is raving about blogging and I have no idea, what’s the harm? I looked at the list and liked the name HubPages. It brings up images of some sort of collection and I have a few of my own collections. Well, do I ever have one, now.
I am a single mother with two young *men* still at home so my time on the computer gets interrupted with my sons, a part time job, two dogs and a hairball plus two other children and family by Toronto and the upkeep of our home in NW Canada. HubPages says it offers a writer the opportunity to get paid from writing and their affiliate programs, Adsense, Amazon, Ebay and Kontera. Well, who doesn’t want a little extra income? Alright, I’ll bite and see where this takes me.
I signed up into HubPages as Dame Scribe since I am getting up in my years therefore, Dame and the second part, Scribe refers to a writer. I thought a mature sound was better fitting since my Yahoo! name in chat is sort of the opposite–> ticklemesilly99 and reflects a different side of my personality altogether. A hint? alright, just playful and humorous with touch of goof.
I then downloaded the ebook HubPages offered in learning how to start, yes, yet another ebook to my ebook library. I played around the site and yes, was tickled silly and wrote a Hub but left for a few weeks then returned and checked out the forums. I read the ones that had questions from other newbies and learned about having to generate traffic, promoting and search engine optimisation aka SEO. Well, I had some work to do since I had no idea what that meant and surfed , to research these topics.
I learned to use HubPages through time and observation, without really asking questions. I don’t recommend this path for anybody. As I mention in my profile, I’m independent and am one to learn on my own. I write Hubs in health, business and alternative energy. I can intubate a client, write a business plan, develop a cash flow projection and wire connections on a wind turbine or solar panel. We should never stop learning something new.
Generating traffic is a lot of work unless one is already part of a popular online magazine or news site and have a existing audience. Others have learned to develop interactive websites or a 2nd blog which I have recently done which helps to boost traffic. I promote my Hubs through the traditional methods other writers use and am always open for suggestions to learning new ideas, so don’t be shy to let me know by email or comments.
The affiliate programs are very cool. They have statistic charts you can observe to see how you are faring and I am in love with Google analytics. Who would’ve imagined so many countries would view my Hubs? I had no idea and is an amazing feeling to realize that people from around the world, do translate the Hub and visit, direct and by email. I’ve watched a steady rate of growth as has my own personal writing experience here in the world of HubPages.
I’ve had to learn that it’s good practice to regularly read high profile bloggers and ezines for any new and interesting, tips and advice in areas we are least familiar. Also learn that it’s ok to ask and give help where we can. Nobody can claim to know everything and if they do, well ... ok. Not everybody will agree or accept the content that me or you write about. Other times, you may even get love emails. Ooo, la, la.
Lets Dance!
A few last tips I recommend are ;
– Organization, organize your Hubs with a simple chart in a binder or on your computer.
– Save, get in the practice of copying and saving your Hub long and short URLs. Save them in their own file on your computer. Makes quicker access for promoting purposes.
– Promotion, keep track of your promoting activities.
– Time, develop a schedule and commit to it. You have a audience waiting.
Cheers to me, my fans and HubPages! A wonderful experience for 18+ year olds, in all subjects and interests. No words can quite describe the effect writing has but the sharing is definitely a Wow! factor to consider. Thanks HubPages!

Sorry, I was late for the party! But you're now on the threshold(23 months) of your second year anniversary. May I greet you this early a Happy Second Year Anniversary! You have gone a short way (in almost 2 years only) to your success. Congratulations!
Congrad.s/great share on this hub/first anniversary and sharing your happiness with others. You are an excellent writer.
Congratulations on your anniversary here on Hubpages! It looks like you know what you're doing. I need to organize some of my promotion time here and elsewhere so I can keep track of the amount of time I'm putting in, and to see what's working best. Thanks for the tips!
Happy anniversary Dame. Great idea writing about your experience at HP in 1 year.
I started off in a similar way, kind of stumbling upon HP. The 1st few months, i was unaware of the forums, so i was working kind of blindly. LOL!! When i finally realised i could visit forums (about 3 months after) and thereby ask questions and learn more, i became better. Of course my first few hubs were long winded and, well not good. No SEO, no keywords, etc. I learn't after participating in the forums. Learn't a lot.
Haven't looked back since.
Thanks for sharing this Dame.
Cheers.
Dame I just found your posts today. Actually it is my first day here. So I really feel like-is there anything I could write about? lol. When I read your post I found them very informative and nice, and easy to read. Thank you
Congrats Ms. Dame, more years and anniversaries, more earnings too!

A big cheer to my favorite teacher ! And boy I never ealized you have written so many hubs ! Man I guess I am just lazy . In any event DS you do great work and consider yourself bearhugged by the Tone Loc here ! ( As they call me at the office ! )
I only can add to it a well done, Dame Scribe, and congratulation. When I read your hub I agreed with every word you wrote about being on hub. It is absolutely fantastic. You learn so much and about so many interesting subjects. I wish you all the best.
This was very nice. I enjoy learning of "older" (I use that term loosely) hubbers. Older being hubpages age. I will probably not be around when I turn 1.
Good for you Dame :-)
Thanks for publishing your anniversary tale.
When you are new, it is easy to assume that everybody else is a pro who has been at it forever.
You are a pro, and it is nice to read how you got your start. A little inspiration for me!
Congratulations to you, you are a sweetheart.
Jen
Congratulations!! Looking forward to many more Great Hubs!
Congratulations on your anniversary on hub pages.
