Jingling Nerves
A few people learn to drive but are unable to get a vehicle immediately and must postpone till they are able to achieve this goal. I got a car, now what?
Anxiety to trust in oneself to remember a skill is always there in many people. Doubts and fear of failure is universal with many activities. Concern for ones ability to maintain safety for self and others is also and should be respected especially when getting behind the wheel of a any vehicle.
Overcome this fear easily by starting with a few simple strategies which won't work for everybody as we are all our own person. Let's start with ;
-- Deep breath. Relax. Shake our arms out. Stomp our feet around if necessary. Take another deep breath and get in the car. Do the checklist, seatbelt, engine, etc, start the engine.
I recommend starting with taking the car out at night or wee hours of the morning and keep to a low traffic road, a back road or huge parking lot. Recite all the road rules and pull them out of the dusty backroom of your mind and Repeat, 'I can do this.'
-- Drive slowly. Focus on getting the FEEL of the way the car moves. Science says that it takes 21 times of practice to make a habit. You already have the experience. Now all you have to do is refresh your skills and revive your self confidence. Look in the mirror and smile now.
A few practice driving runs down the backroads or least high traffic areas will help boost and reinforce your confidence levels. As mentioned before, once you get the 'feel' of your vehicle and learn how it reacts - you will feel much more secure in your abilities. It isn't lost - just a lil exercise and all will be well. Have fun, stay safe.

Charia, you and I both! I'm finally going to book some lessons next month. Good luck to you. (And me too!)
I decided many years ago that driving is not for me. But it seems that now I have no choice and so I'll just try my best not to freak out when I'm on the road. Hope I can make it! =)
Thanks for answering my hub request. You've given me some nice, quick and concise tips there!
If you live in an area of snow, find a big parking lot. I do this when we drive a new vehicle in winter. Play with it. Gas and brake, toss the car side to side, feel how it moves and reacts. On snow it is great, you learn how the car slides on snow/ice. If you play with it and can control it while messing around, you will be ok out on the road. Works for us.
Really helpful fast tips. I'll take them.
