Plural Unions

~*~ The world of practicing polygamy is alive and well. Law makers and governments are going to need to address this rising issue arising from approved immigrations. Can you imagine meeting somebody with two plus wives or husbands?

– Endogamy, marriage must occur within their class, race, ethnic group or religion.

– Exogamy, marriage occurs outside a kin, clan or tribe.

– Monogamy, one husband and one wife.

– Polygyny, a male with one or more wives.

– Polyandry, a woman with one or more husbands.

– Polygamy, referring to either above practices.

– Bigamy, a person marries again while still married.

Plural unions are an increasing presence in Canada, UK and the U.S.A. The biggest outcry in regards to this practice are the financial benefits that are collected in the host country to support such a lifestyle and the morals involved in such a practice. Why should the tax payers of these respective countries have to support these practices?

I agree on that note of disagreeing to the financial gain. If a man or woman in such a arrangement can’t support their family then the ‘marriage’ should not exist. Is this really even a marriage? Or just a arrangement of convenience or selfish pride? In the past, polygamy was a privilege only for the wealthy.

History has shown polygamy was practiced by many nations around the world because of the disproportionate number of the women to men ratio due to wars. Today, polygamy is still practiced. How many of us grew up with the belief that marriage to *one* is sacred and special? I admit to be one in strong favor of this belief. My own parents celebrated their 46^th wedding anniversary this past year.

The moral outcry against this practice should also be noted. Marriage is considered a approved sexual union between two individuals with some idea of permanence. Monogamy appears in most societies but other forms are also favored and permitted.

Polygyny is usually favored when it is tied to a improved economic production or higher status considerations. Polyandry usually occurs when younger brothers have access to a older brothers wife because the family can not afford wives for all their sons. This arrangement is rare and has been revealed that the woman has no say in sexual consent.

Procreation is the goal of all societies but there must be some sort of universal agreement at this point of time for all human kind to realize, the gene pool can be expanded and science has proven that remaining homogenous only shrinks the gene pool for any one race of people.

As women are valued in all societies. I would prefer she be allowed to give her consent to the life she wants and the marriage she prefers. Women have long been subjected to their societies and are too easily considered as second citizens. It is a global world now and nations must step forward to move forward, in mutual respect and peace and shared morality for all.
