Choosing a Business Sign

The business whether large or small should include a sign for professional and business appeal. It tells the world that, ‘This is the place of this particular business activity!’

A business sign can be very simple, elegant and understated or loud and mesmerizing. The choices available are numerous and depends upon your own personal tastes and available budget. It should have strong eye appeal and be inviting to your target customers.

The sign will require several decisions to be considered such as;

  • Local Zoning Regulations – Investigate the type or size of the sign you are allowed. Restrictions may apply if you are located in a historic district.

  • Uniformity – Attempt to follow the same store sign designs in your area.

  • Location – Observe the area and determine how best to set your sign to be seen at all available angles.

  • Cleanliness – Awning and Canopy signs will require a regular cleaning schedule also the grounds leading to your store entry.

  • Protection – Awning and Canopy signs can provide shelter from rain and snow and provide extra exposure to your store.

Signs are the most cost effective advertising available for all businesses. It will introduce you and your products to potential customers, advertise 24/7, 365 days of the year, maintain a image in the customers mind (good or bad) , continuously attract customers and announce your business presence. It is a silent, busy and communicative device for today’s viewing audience.

A good sign can be the difference between the success or failure of a business. Design of the ‘right’ sign can create a identifiable ‘branding’ of the site therefore increasing awareness. It also becomes a ‘business asset’ because it can be protected under copyright and the community ‘good will’ that it creates.

Thanks for including cleanliness when referring to signs. I am one who pays attention to such details. In some situations, like hair salons and food establishments, a nasty, dirty sign will shut my excitement for a place down in a jiffy. You picked a great topic here. Good job!
