Donating Nutrition - Combat Hunger
Nutrition is important for the human to maintain life and health and many people volunteer in food bank organizations to help distribute such foods to the needy. Do you know the best foods that are recommended?
Essential ingredients recommended for a balanced diet are proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and carbohydrates. The body can produce sugars from fats, and fats from sugars and proteins, depending on the need but it cannot produce proteins, from sugars and fats.
Proteins are important for the amino acids that occur naturally in plant and animal tissues that form the main constituents of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed for protein synthesis to occur of which eleven can be synthesized by our bodies but the other nine must be obtained from our diets.
Proteins are necessary for the body to build and repair all kinds of tissue such as our muscles and organs like the heart, kidneys and liver then stores a reserve, in other parts of our bodies. Aren’t our bodies just amazing? almost like it’s own food bank!
Protein deficiencies can result in poor health and be observed with weakness, poor resistance, swelling of body tissues. Protein starvation cannot be satisfied with large amounts of carbohydrates. Therefore, foods high in sources of protein are important and found in such foods as the following ;
– meat ~ eggs ~ fish ~ milk
I have to commend the people who operate and donate items to our various food banks. It takes great thought, consideration and genuine caring to open one’s purse strings to purchase food(s) to donate for those in need. Who are in need? There are the homeless, single parents, street youths, low -income elderly, disabled, children and even pets.
Foods that have a long shelf life and sources of nutritional value are the most important when considering to donate to food banks or food drives. A few ideas, such as the following ;
– Canned fish and meat
– Canned fruit and vegetables
– Legumes, dry or canned
– Soup, canned or dry base (Oxo)
– Cereals, whole grains, (oatmeal)
– Milk, dry
– Eggs, powdered
Food bank warehouses and drives distribute these foods to other organizations such as food kitchens, shelters, drop-in centers, and hostels or directly to those in need. I may have missed a few but am sure we understand that efforts to combat hunger and provide genuine, caring, human contact, to the needy, are being made. A effort that we should be proud and concerned if donation boxes are near empty. It provides a measure of the community goodwill. Have you looked at your local food donation bin?
Other ideas in regards to donations are not necessarily food related but for further considerations are products such as ;
– diapers
– baby food
– pet food banks
– personal hygiene products
– clothing
– toys
The choice in donating items to your local food bank is yours and mine. Holidays are upcoming and not everybody will have a joyous season. Let’s make a effort to donate to one or two of these charitable organizations and have a complete stranger, smile.

It is great that you pointed out the need for protein. There is a great fad among our youth to follow diets eliminating most protein due to sympathy of animals being slaughtered, which I can understand, but for them to eliminate, eggs and milk products unless they are allergic it makes no sense.
